Is lavender poisonous?
By Julia Wuenscher
Lately we have often received the question whether lavender is poisonous to cats or dogs. In short, this is a myth. Lavender is not poisonous, neither for dogs nor for cats, this is confirmed by the animal welfare team in Cologne, because they list lavender among the harmless plants for their four-legged friends. Lavender is often perceived as poisonous because of its strong smell, which is where this assumption could come from. Only rodents such as rabbits do not tolerate lavender and its essential oil. The positive thing about lavender is that the medicinal plant has a calming effect on animals and can also protect against fleas or ticks. The smell can also relax the four-legged friends.
